Punjab Kings have brought in a former Australian First-Class cricketer Damien Wright as the new bowling coach for the upcoming IPL season. The 45-year-old Wright, who was also the head coach of the Bangladesh U-19 cricket team, will help support the Punjab Kings team under Head Coach and Director of Cricket Operations Anil Kumble.
“I am happy to be on board as bowling coach for Punjab Kings. The team looks very good and there is immense potential in this squad and I look forward to working with a great support team from IPL this season,” Wright said.
Wright worked with Australian Big Bash League sides Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars and also worked as bowling coach of the New Zealand team. Apart from Wright and Kumble, Punjab Kings’ support staff includes assistant coach Andy Flower, batting coach Wasim Jaffer and field coach Jonty Rhodes.
“He brings a lot of experience and will definitely help strengthen our team. We look forward to working with him in this version of the IPL,” Kumble said.
Punjab Kings led by KL Rahul will begin their IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on April 12.
